Who We Are

Dance without Drama (D.W.D.) is a social group of individuals who share a common love for the art of Soul Line Dancing.  Our group, formed in January of this year (2012), currently consists of 5 founding members who have known each other for many years; Donna M. Ellis, Evelyn C. Johnson, Morris W. Ellis, Sandra A. Jones, and Louis L. (Troy) Jones.

What We Do

A line dance is a dance that has been choreographed with specific steps to a specific song where everyone is doing the same steps at the same time.  Line dances have been choreographed for a huge range of different and indeed diverse types of music. While line dancing has its roots planted in Country and Western, line dance today has evolved to include a wide variety of different dance styles and music. Whether it is Cuban, pop rock or funk; if there is a beat, you can move your feet!

Soul Line Dancing is typically done to Motown, R&B, Gospel, Jazz, hip hop, and soul music and has been around since the 50’s and 60’s with dances like The Madison, Bunny Hop, The Marvin Gaye Walk and the Bus Stop. To date, there have been thousands of soul line dances created for all levels of dancers (Beginner, intermediate, and advanced) but the most commonly known soul line dances, usually done at weddings and in dance clubs, include the Electric Slide, The Cupid Shuffle, Cha-Cha slide, and the Wobble.

Line dancing is a form of recreational exercise and has the added benefits of improving co-ordination, memory skills, muscle tone, and relieves stress.  Line dancing provides a chance to socialize, network, and interact with other line dance families across the country.

Our Mission Statement

The Mission of D.W.D is to provide a unique and entertaining recreational activity for the community, educate and generate excitement for the art of dance within a stress free environment, and foster a culture of love and unity among all people, regardless of age, race, or economic status.
